Frequently Asked Questions for Corentium Home 223 Airthings Radon Gas Detector

Q1.How many counts per hour does this do?

Answer: The Corentium Home will provide 1 count per hour. After 24 hours your short-term average will appear supplying you with the last 24-hours average of counts. Once an hour, the short-term average will update with the new rolling 24-hour short-term measurement. After 7 days you’ll then be provided with  the 7-day short-term average which will be updated once each day

Q2.Does this meter give instant Results?

Answer: No! But this feature wouldn’t serve the purpose anyway. Radon levels vary hourly counting on its seepage rate and ground source depth;  thus average per day for several days is the most accurate value. This meter assesses the average per one day and seven days.

Q3.How can I report the findings to my client as a Home Inspector?

Answer: The Home has an online tool where you can generate a Radon report providing the long-term average by completing an online form with the details provided by your device. As a Home Inspector, they do offer their  Pro which is meant to be used by professionals. You can check this article.

Q4.Are the batteries supposed to be left on until their batteries die?

Answer: Yes, and then change the batteries. The batteries long life and serve their purpose well. You can leave it on at all times to get continuous measurements. It’s not mandatory to leave it on. You can take it to different rooms or different houses by poking the reset button with a bent paperclip and start re-measuring,

Q5.Is radon an issue with slabs too, or just basements?

Answer: Yes, slab dwellings can have radon. But without a basement, you’re less likely to possess an accumulation problem. Radon is heavier than air, so it pools and collects in basements and crawl spaces, and it also can seep up from sumps, drains, and cracks from below. A house also can act as an excellent big chimney, drawing gases upward. The readings vary from zero to 10 picocuries/liter on the primary floor with all the windows wide open to the outside. The barometer goes up and down and rolls by from weather systems, and from the utilization of phosphorus fertilizers by nearby farmers — it’s very interesting to watch

Q6.How can you check the primary reading?

Answer: The first reading appears automatically after 48-72 hours.

Q7.Do you need to reset the machine to place it in a new location?

Answer: Yes that is normal. When you reset,  it will keep flashing hash lines on the screen for a while

Q8.How do you produce the report?

Answer: To generate the correct report all you have to do is:

  1. a measurement duration of at least 30 (full) days. Shorter measurements do not produce a report
  2. of the serial number (S/N) of your monitor (found on your rear side Corentium Home);
  3. the number of days measured (press the MODE button 1 time to get the number of days measured)
  4. the 4-digit code that you simply can retrieve by clicking on the MODE button 2 times. This is often important: this code is exclusive and directly associated with both the Radon levels you enter within the online form and therefore the length of your measurement. Please confirm to enter this code correctly, otherwise, a report can’t be generated

Once you have entered this information correctly, together with your contact details and the information regarding the building where you performed your measurement, you can quickly generate your report.

The report is generated and available to download as a pdf.

Please note the above information is directly taken from the official website.

Q9.Does the device not transmit any data wirelessly?

Answer: The Corentium Home is a stand-alone device that does not transfer any data wirelessly and only presents measurement information from the digital display of the Corentium Home.

Q10.What is the shortest amount of your time you’ll do a test with this device?

Answer: Professional testers need to be used for a 48-hour test. For this home unit, it should run at least a week to be somewhat accurate. A month would be better.

It will have a 20% fluctuation for a 48-hour test. The 7-day test should be around 10% fluctuation and 2 months around 5%. If the fluctuation ratio is more than what is mentioned contact support for help.

    Hello Josua,

Which device is better, Airthings Home or Airthings Wave. How do they compare with Safety Siren Pro 3. Do they use the same technology. I have read that Safety Siren needs annual calibration by the manufacturer while the Airthings devices calibrate themselves automatically. Please comment.

  2. Can you comment on the accuracy of this unit vs the Airthings wave? Do they use the same sensor?
